How many basic bitches say I’m such a Carrie as if she were the NEXT Carrie Bradshaw. Reality check, Carrie Bradshaw is not a real person—and her life is wholly unrealistic. With that being said, Carrie Bradshaw is one of my style icons. However, I promise if I ever saw SJP walking down the street I wouldn’t scream OMG it’s Carrie Bradshaw! I’m not delusional and screaming is so not chic. Carrie Bradshaw may be a fictional character but the impact she had on fashion has left a lasting footprint long after she and the girls shared their last Cosmo. One of Carrie’s most famous quotes is something that I honestly connect with on a spiritual and emotional level….”I like my money where I can see it — hanging in my closet.” The term “my money” has to be used lightly here because I still live off of my parents. Shout out to them–sorry you most likely won’t have a retirement fund!! I think the reason I connect with Carrie so much is the fact that we are always so ridiculously and inappropriately overdressed regardless of the occasion…I bet Carrie could have used my mother’s wonderful words of wisdom such as “Shelby feel the room” and “Shelby you have to know your audience.” Well at 19 years old I can say with confidence that like Carrie I still don’t know my audience and I can’t feel out a room for the appropriate way to dress–hence my blog title “Black Tie Daily.”
